ELSAH, ILL. – The No .4 seed Spalding University softball team lost to the No. 1 seed Fontbonne, 1-0 in their opening game of the SLIAC Tournament Thursday night in Elsah, Ill. With the loss the Golden Eagles fall to 14-21 on the year.
Kelci Flener (8-10) took the loss, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out three batters and walking none.

Becca Mouser and
Kaylin Rucker all recorded one hit apiece to lead the Eagle batters.
The Golden Eagles threatened early, juicing the bases with one out in the top of the first inning, but a Gilliland fly out and a Flener strikeout looking left SU with three runners stranded for the inning.
Fontbonne plated the game-winning run in the fifth when Courtney Kedroski singled, stole second and raced around the bases to score on a Samantha Brown RBI single.
Brook Lamon would reach second on SU's final at bat, but a
Brooke Conder strikeout ended the game.
Spalding will play in the elimination game tomorrow against MacMurray at 6:00 p.m. EST. The Golden Eagles topped the Highlanders 8-0 and 7-6 in the regular season.
