ELSAH, Ill. – The Spalding University softball team saw their season come to an end late Saturday night as they fell to Greenville, 5-2. The Golden Eagles survived elimination earlier in the day topping MacMurray, 3-0. Spalding finishes the season with a 15-22 overall record with an 11-7 mark in SLIAC competition.
Spalding kept their season alive with a 3-0 win over MacMurray in the 5:00 p.m. game.
Kaylin Rucker powered the SU offense with a 3-for-3 performance, and
Kelci Flener pitched a 7.0 inning shutout, scattering three hits while striking out nine batters.
Rucker put SU on the board in the top of the first racing home from second following an error at third base to give Spalding a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles added a pair of runs in the the sixth inning when a Rucker double, her second of the game, drove in
Brooke Conder and moved
Brooke Lamon to third.
Alyssa McAfee followed with a groundout to third that allowed Lamon to cross the plate to make the final score 3-0.
The Eagles season would end on a 5-2 loss to Greenville College.
Brooke Lamon led the SU offense with two RBIs on 2-for-3 hitting. Flener took the loss, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits while tossing three strikeouts and walking two batters.
Greenville got on the board early when Tiffany Samsoe swatted a two-run homer to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead, and a GC added a run in the third to extend their lead to 3-0.
A
Brooke Lamon solo bomb in the top of the fifth got the Eagles back within two runs, but another Samsoe two run homer in the bottom of the inning pushed the SU deficit to four runs.
Lamon singled scoring
Miranda Ladanyi in the bottom of the seventh, but a McAfee groundout to shortstop would end the Golden Eagles chance at a comeback as they fell, 5-2.
