LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team split a doubleheader against Rose-Hulman Sunday afternoon, winning game one, 1-0, before losing the nightcap, 5-4. The Lady Eagles move to 9-15 overall.
Kelci Flener was dominant on the mound in the first game, pitching a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts. It was her fourth double digit strikeout game of the season. Flener improved to 6-6 on the year.
Amanda Gilliland drove in the game's only run with a single in the fourth that plated
Becca Mouser.
In the second game, Spalding scored four times in the bottom of the first inning with RBI singles from
Kaytlyn Mitchell and Flener, as well as a two-run triple from Gilliland. Five Spalding errors allowed the Fightin' Engineers to score three unearned runs and they took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Spalding is back in action Tuesday, April 14th with a doubleheader at Centre. The games are slated for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. EST start times.
