California tour ends with 11-4 loss at Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Ca. – The Spalding University baseball team concluded their California tour with an 11-4 loss at Pumona-Fitzer on Monday. The loss puts the Eagles at 3-3 this season.

The Golden Eagles were held to six hits on the day. Brad Speek was the only Eagle that finished with multiple hits going 2-for-3 and scoring a run, while Korie Vire was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

Kyle Olliges (1-1) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in four innings.

Pomona built a 9-0 lead over the first five innings, but Spalding scored three runs to in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to six runs. Following Kam Bruner fielder's choice and Speek double down the right field line, Vire singled through the left side bringing Bruner and Speek across the plate, and Vire scored on an error by the left fielder. However, the Sagehens answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to push their lead back to 8 runs.

Nic Chafin drilled a homerun over the right field fence in the eighth inning, but the Eagles would fall 11-4.
