LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team used stingy defense run past MacMurray College, 74-23. The Lady Eagles improve to 16-4 overall and 14-1 in conference play. The Highlanders dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-10 in SLIAC competition.
Maddie Martin came off the bench to lead SU scoring 12 points while collecting seven rebounds in 16 minutes of action. Three more Eagles finished in double-figures.
Jessica Guy finished with 10 points and eight boards,
Kayla Styles tallied 10 points and four steals, and
Hannah Washle scored 10 points of 4-of-5 shooting.
Spalding took control from the opening tip. The Lady Eagles opened the game with a 16-2 run capped off by a Martin layup. The Highlanders outscored SU 5-2 over the next 1:38 cutting SU's lead to 11 points, but the Golden Eagles closed the half on a 24-7 run taking a 42-14 lead into the break.
The Golden Eagle defense locked down MacMurray in the second half holding the Highlanders to seven points on their way to a 74-23 victory.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Wednesday night at Saint Mary of the Woods College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. EST.
