EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Spalding University men's basketball fell to Southern Indiana, an NCAA Division II opponent, 84-55, Saturday in Evansville, Ind. With the loss the Golden Eagles fall to 2-7 on the season.
Nick Trisko led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds.
James Turner also scored in double-figures finishing with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Southern Indiana had five players finish in double-figures, led by George Edwards game-high 20 points, who shot 90% from the field.
The Golden Eagles trailed from start to finish. USI scored the game's first 12 points rolling out to a 12-0 lead two and a half minutes into the game. Spalding would cut the Screaming Eagle lead to nine points at 17-9, following a
James Turner layup at the 13:29 mark. It would be all USI the remainder of the half as the Screaming Eagles pulled away to a 47-24 halftime lead.
Spalding's
James Turner scored the first points of the second half, but USI would score next 12 points to stretch their lead to 57-26, and led by as many as 37 points in the second half. Spalding would fight to cut the deficit to 25 points following a Turner three-pointer with 2:07 remaining as SU would fall 84-55.
The Golden Eagles will have a week off over the holidays before returning to action Wednesday, December 30 when they host Oglethorpe at Derek Smith Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m. EST.
