The Golden Eagles stumbled at the start managing just 17 points in a sloppy first half where both teams combined for 19 turnovers. Spalding took a 2-0 lead to start the game following a
Mackenzie Myers jumper on SU's first possession, and led 7-6 with 3:21 to play in the first quarter, but an Alexis Guy three-pointer nudged the Colonels ahead at the first quarter horn.
Brandy Hunter knocked down a trifecta to start the second quarter to push SU back in front 10-9. However, Centre responded with a 13-5 run to push the Spalding deficit to seven, but a
Julie Skaggs jumper cut it to five points heading into the break.
Spalding came out ice cold to start the second half missing their first four field goal attempts, while turning the ball over three times allowing the Colonels to push their lead to 25-17. An
Alex Martin layup broke the SU drought, and Myers connected on a jumper to cut the deficit to four points mid-way through the third. Centre responded, closing the quarter on an 8-3 run to extend the Colonel lead to nine heading into the final quarter.
The buckets started to pour in for SU in the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles scored the first 11 points of the quarter erasing a nine point deficit, then taking a two-point lead following a Hardin layup. Both teams went shot for shot the remainder of the quarter sending the game to overtime, the Golden Eagles first OT game of the season.
In overtime, guards
Alex Martin and
Dee Dee Sliter combined to score 13 points helping Spalding outscore the Colonels 16-7 to pull away to a 62-53 win.
