Golden Eagles fall to Gorloks in straight sets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University volleyball team lost their second match in as many days falling to Webster University, 3-0, Tuesday in Webster Groves, Mo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles fell behind 6-0 to begin the first set, but were able to battle back cutting the Gorlok lead to three points following a Samantha Budrovich hitting error. However, Webster closed the set taking 12 of the last 17 points to win the first set.
- Spalding jumped out the early lead in the second set, taking a 9-7 advantage following a Cayla Hoehler kill. The Golden Eagles looked to be in control of the match when an Ashley Chase service ace gave them a four point margin at 23-19, but the Gorloks shutout SU the remainder of the set to win it, 25-23.
- Similar to the second set, Spalding held a late lead at 20-17 following a pair of Gorlok errors. Again, Webster answered with a run scoring five unanswered points to take a 22-20 lead, and went on to take the set and match with a 25-22 victory  
 
KEY STATS
- Despite being swept, the Golden Eagles totaled 38 kills, just one less than the Gorloks 39.
- Hitter errors were a key factor. SU tallied 24 hitting errors compared to Webster's 13.
- Jessica Diehl and Ashley Chase both finished with a match-high 11 kills.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the court tomorrow night when they face the Eureka College Red Devils at 8:00 p.m. EST in Eureka, Ill.
