LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding volleyball team stormed back from a 2-0 game deficit to defeat Berea College, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
Berea took the first set 25-20, and second set 25-15. Facing defeat Spalding won the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-23, respectively. The Golden Eagles also won the winner take all fifth set, 15-11.
Berea depended on blocks for the first two sets of the match, totaling 14 in all. As they got deeper into the match, Spalding was able to adjust to the Mountaineer game plan and find holes in their defense to finish kills. The passing also got better as the game went on, allowing for better attacking attempts against the long Mountaineer blockers.
Jessica Diehl led the Golden Eagles in kills with 17 and
Victoria Heitzman added 15 as well. Heitzman recorded her second straight double-double adding 11 digs. Freshman
Kaitlin Hall had a match-high and new career-high 49 assists in the match.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up their regular season with a pair of matches on Saturday. Spalding will face conference opponent Webster University at 10:00 a.m. and non-conference opponent Indiana University Southeast at 2:00 p.m.
