Abdullahi hat trick fuels Eagles win, 9-0

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Spalding University men's soccer team improved to 3-1 in SLIAC competition with a 9-0 shutout of Iowa Wesleyan Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Golden Eagles took control midway through the first half. Abdullahi and Schmuck hooked up on a pair of goals to get the scoring started. Schmuck found the foot of Abdul who fired shots past the keeper in the 24th and 28th minute to give SU a 2-0 lead, and Spalding went on to slot four more goals to take a 6-0 lead into the half.

- In the second half, Abdul completed the hat trick off an assist by Olvera-Vancini to stretch the Golden Eagle margin to 7-0. SU added two more goals, the last by Colton Farmer to make the final score 9-0.

KEY STATS
- Sergio Olvera-Vancini passed out four assists on Saturday, the highest single-game total by a Golden Eagle since joining the NCAA in 2009. Olvera-Vancini is currently tied for second in the SLIAC with six assists on the year.

- Junior Abdullahi Abdullahi tallied his first career hat trick on Saturday scoring goals in the 24th, 28th and 52nd minute. On the season, Abdullahi has scored five goals ranking seventh in the conference.
