Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball fall at Iowa Wesleyan, 76-68

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa. – The Spalding University women's basketball team saw their 10-game win streak come to halt falling, 76-68, Thursday night against Iowa Wesleyan. The loss was the Eagles first during conference play and drops them to 14-4 overall and 12-1 in the SLIAC. Wesleyan improves to 12-6 on the year and pulled within a game in the SLIAC with a record of 9-2.

Spalding got double-doubles from both Kayla Styles and Jessica Guy. Styles finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Guy posted 13 points (6-9 FG) and 14 boards. Hannah Washle also finished in double figures with 10 points. The Eagles had a 10 rebound advantage on the glass but were done in by the Tigers making 27 out of 30 free throws.

Spalding used the early hot hand from Jessica Guy to stay ahead for most of the first half. In a half that featured seven ties and three lead changes, she came up with many big baskets during the period to keep Wesleyan from pulling ahead. Her short jumper gave Spalding a five point lead, their largest of the game, with 14 minutes left in the half. Guy scored 11 of the team's first 24 points. The Tigers took the lead for good late in the first half and were able to extend the lead to seven before a put-back from Guy cut the lead to five at the half.

Spalding made several runs during the second half but were unable to catch the Tigers. The lead was cut to two points at 38-36 just two minutes into the half before the Tigers went on a 13-4 run to take their largest lead of the game at 51-40 with 13 minutes remaining. The Eagles would not go away, making a run and cutting the deficit to three after Kallie Ash drained a three point field goal with eight minutes left. The Tigers answered with a triple of their own and Spalding never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

The Lady Golden Eagles conclude their road trip on Saturday against Fontbonne at 2:00 p.m. EST.
