ELSAH, Ill. –
Renaldo Moore scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Spalding University (6-5, 3-1) men's basketball team to an 82-56 victory over Principia College (1-7, 0-4).
Moore led all scorers, and
Brandon Gabriel added 20 points and six assists.
Brandon Goeing came off the bench scoring 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
Larry Patterson led the Panthers with 20 points, and Justin Ball added 16 points.
The Golden Eagles on led 17-15 mid way through the first half, but a
Donnie Lewis jump shot sparked a 14-4 Spalding run and SU went to the half leading 37-20. The Golden Eagles defense limited the Panthers to five points over the final 11:20 of the first half.
Moore and Gabriel knocked down a jumper on SU's first two possessions to open the second half extending the Golden Eagles lead to 21 points at 41-20. The Panthers battled back cutting the SU lead to 12 points on a Justin Ball jump shot making the score 45-33 with 14:34 to play. The Golden Eagles responded with a 15-2 run capped off by a Moore free throw to make the score 60-35. SU went on to push their lead to 29 points as they rolled to the 82-56 win.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Tuesday, January 6 when they host Fontbonne University at 8:00 p.m. EST.
