LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University men's basketball team notched a win over conference foe Fontbonne University, 81-65, Tuesday night at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 11-3 lead, but the Griffins responded with a 14-6 run to tie the game at 17-17. Spalding fired back closing the half on a 23-14 run behind the hot hand of
Brandon Gabriel, to take a 40-31 lead into the break. Â
Spalding came out of the break on fire off the hot shooting from
James Turner. Turner scored SU's first 10 points of the half propelling the Golden Eagles to a 50-33 lead 4:08 into the half, and Spalding went on to push their lead to 19 points following a Gabriel three-pointer with 4:54 to play as Spalding went onto win 81-65.
Brandon Gabriel and
James Turner led the Golden Eagles with 18 points apiece.
Renaldo Moore chipped in 18 points and
Brandon Goeing added 11 points.
Blake Welch paced the Griffins with 16 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they host Blackburn College Thursday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m. EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
