LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team dominated Webster University, 83-57, at Derek Smith Gymnasium Wednesday night. The lady Eagles improved to 10-3 on the season and continue their undefeated streak (7-0) in SLIAC competition, while Webster University fell to 5-9 and 2-5 in the SLIAC.
The Lady Eagles had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures. Leading the way tonight for the Spalding was
Kayla Styles scoring 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
Jessica Guy added 11 points and seven boards while
Brandy Hunter and
Hannah Washle scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
SU started fast jumping out to a 22-8 lead, spearheaded by energetic attack of
Maddie Martin off the bench. Martin scored seven of her nine points in the first half, and the Lady Eagles eased to a 41-26 lead at half.
Spalding used a 14-4 stretch to start the second half and opened a 23 point lead, their largest of the game to that point. They were able to gradually pull away from this point, extending the lead up to 31 points, at 81-50 with less than three minutes remaining. The Eagles were able to pull away thanks in part to forcing 14 second half turnovers. The Gorloks finished with 28 turnovers.
The Lady Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Westminster College Saturday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. EST.
