Box Score ST. LOUIS – The Spalding University volleyball team opened SLIAC play with a 3-1 win over Iowa Wesleyan Friday night at Webster University, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22.
Spalding dropped the first set 18-25 as a result due to hitting woes resulting in a -.038 hitting percentage and nine errors with only eight kills.
However, SU rebounded in the second set winning 25-16 to tie the match at one set apiece.
Spalding went on to take the last two sets, winning the third set 25-20 and taking the final set 25-22 behind a match-high 20 kills and .366 hitting percentage.
Jessica Diehl and
Katelyn Cosgrove led the offensive attack with 11 kills each. Cosgrove also led the team with 21 assists and
Morgan Wilson added 17.
Casey Wilkerson anchored the defense with 18 digs, and
Erin Downs guarded the net with two solo blocks and five block assists.
