Four Lady Eagles score in double figures as SU rolls past MacMurray, 75-48

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures to lead the Spalding University (4-2, 2-0) women's basketball team to a 75-48 victory over MacMurray College (1-4, 1-2) Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Jessica Guy paced SU with a double-double scoring 12 points and collecting 14 rebounds. Kallie Ash and Brandy Hunter also added 12 points apiece, while Kayla Styles finished with 10 points and eight boards.

Megan Duissen was the top scorer for the Highlanders with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and Cydny Saxer also tallied double figures with 13 points.

The Highlanders Kaydee Camody hit one of two from the free throw line to give MacMurray an early 1-0 lead. Kallie Ash bookended a 6-0 Spalding run with a pair of made jumpers to give SU a 6-1 lead. Mac's Cydny Saxer scored four points fueling an 8-4 run that cut SU's lead to one point. The game remained close until the 7:13 mark when Kayla Riggs and Brandy Hunter scored on three consecutive possessions helping ignite a 16-3 Spalding run to end the half sending the Golden Eagles into the break leading 35-18.

Spalding scored the first six points out of the break to balloon their lead to 23 points 1:31 into the second half.  SU gradually pulled away over the remainder of the game, eventually stretching their lead to 35 points, their largest of the game, on a Kelly Coburn three-pointer with 1:57 to play as they rolled to a 75-48 win.

The Golden Eagles dominated on defense forcing 28 Highlander turnovers, while holding the Mac offense to 31.7% shooting. SU also controlled the boards finishing the game with a plus 19 rebounding advantage.

Up next, the Lady Eagles will travel to Greencastle, Ind. Monday, December 9 to take on No. 15 DePauw University. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST at the Neal Fieldhouse.
