WOOSTER, Ohio – The Spalding University men's basketball team went 0-2 at the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Tournament at Wooster College.
The Golden Eagles comeback fell short against Wisconsin – La Crosse as they fell 71-66 in the consolation game Tuesday night.
Spalding trailed 38-26 at the half after allowing La Crosse to shoot 58.3% in the first half. However, the Golden Eagles battled back cutting the Wis. – La Crosse lead to three points on a
Victor Cosby layup with 4:40 left to play. Nevertheless, La Crosse responded with an 8-2 run to stretch their lead back to nine and SU went on to fall 71-66.
Brandon Gabriel paced the Golden Eagles with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while passing out five assists.
The Golden Eagles trailed by 23 at the half as they fell to Hope College, 77-58, in their first round game Monday evening.
Spalding got off to a slow start missing six of their first seven shot attempts allowing Hope to get out to an 11-2 lead, and the Flying Dutchmen increased their advantage to 43-20 at the half. The Golden Eagles trailed by as many 32 points in the second half, but were able to close the gap to 19 by the end of regulation.
Brandon Gabriel led Spalding with 13 point, while K.J. Abrams chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they host Principia College Saturday, January 3 at 3:00 p.m. EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
