DANVILLE – The Spalding University women's soccer lost at Centre College, 9-1 Tuesday evening.
The Golden Eagles gave up goal in the 2
nd minute when Centre's Destinie Graves found the back of the net. The Colonels went on to add four more goals over the next 20 minutes to give Centre a 5-0 advantage midway through the first half.
Dee Dee Sliter had a pair of attempts on goal in the 23
rd and 28
th minute, but both attempts were corralled and SU went to the half trailing 5-0.
Spalding was limited on offense in the first half being outshot 18-3 and 2-1 on corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles picked up their attack to start the second half, Sliter got a shot just 51 seconds into the period and fired an attempt on goal 57 seconds later, but neither found the back of the net. Over the next 21 minutes Centre stretched their lead to 8-0. The Golden Eagles finally got on the board in the 76
th minute when
Julie McGee connected on a free kick. Centre's Megan Sherwood scored her second goal of the game in the 83
rd minute to make the final score 9-0.
The Golden Eagles were outshot 32-7 on the night and held to a 6-1 corner deficit.
Emily Lindsay took the loss allowing eight goals while collecting 12 saves.
