Lady Eagles Erase 13 Point Halftime Deficit To Defeat Blackburn, 80-62

Jessica Guy scored 16 second half points helping the Spalding University women's basketball team erase a 13 point halftime deficit to defeat Blackburn College, 80-62 Saturday.

The Lady Eagles got off to an awful start, going 5-of-17 from the field, while committing nine turnovers as SU fell behind 28-11 at the 7:57 mark.

Spalding outscored Blackburn 12-4 over the next four minutes, cutting the Beavers lead to nine points on a Brandy Hunter jump shot with 3:30 left in the half, but BC would stretch their lead back to 13 points to send SU into the half trailing 40-27.

The Golden Eagles got out to a hot start in the second half, scoring 11 unanswered points to cut Blackburn's lead to two on a Kerstin Hayes three-pointer at the 18:02 mark.

The Beavers scored six straight points pushing their lead back to eight at 45-38, but a Guy layup on SU's next possession sparked a 13-3 Spalding run, to give the Golden Eagle's a 51-48 lead.

Blackburn's Erin Bell knocked down a jumper on the Beaver's next possession, but a 20-4 Spalding run put the game out of reach as the Lady Eagles won 80-62.

Jessica Guy paced the Lady Eagles with a team-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Maya Hardin and Kelsey Kaiser also scored in double-digits. Hardin scored 11 points, while Kaiser added 11 points, going 5-of-5 from the field.

Blackburn had three players finish in double figures, Shelby Smith led the Beavers with 20 points, while Ciara Morgan scored 19 points and Charitie Goodman added 10 points.

The Lady Eagles home games against St. Mary of the Woods on January 29 and Principia College on February 1 have been canceled. SU will be back in action Thursday, February 6 when they take on Iowa Wesleyan College in a neutral site game at MacMurray. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m., ET.
