Kallie Ash, and Kristen Baker each scored in double figures to lead the Spalding University women's basketball team to a 64-59 win at Westminster College Monday afternoon.
Spalding improves to 7-7 overall on the season and 7-1 in SLIAC play.
SU got off to a slow start, allowing the Blue Jays to open up a 10-0 lead to begin the game, but the Golden Eagles outscored Westminster 15-8 over the next seven minutes to cut SU's deficit to three at 15-18.
The Blue Jays responded with a 13-5 run to extend their lead to 11 points, but Spalding outscored WC 9-2 to close the half, cutting the deficit to four on a
Kelsey Kaiser free throw just before the end of the half.
SU came out firing in the second half. Ash and
Kerstin Hayes knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to open the half, sparking a 17-7 Golden Eagle run, giving SU a 46-40 lead with 11 minutes to play.
An Andrea Zalis three-pointer on WC's next possession cut SU's lead to three, but the Golden Eagles held off the Blue Jays to earn the 64-59 win.
Ash and Sliter led the Lady Eagles with 11 points apiece, while Baker added 10 points.
Andrea Zalis paced the Blue Jays with 19 points.
Spalding will be back in action Thursday, January 23 at Webster University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m., ET.
