Kallie Ash scored 14 points to lead the Spalding University women's basketball team to a 65-61 victory at Fontbonne University Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles got off to a strong start, taking a 12-7 lead on an Ash three-pointer at the 17:44 mark.
Fontbonne outscored SU 12-5 over the next eight minutes to take a 19-17 lead with nine minutes to play in the half. The Griffins held the lead until
Hannah Washle knocked down a jumper with 38 seconds left to tie the score 26-26 at halftime.
Spalding outscored Fontbonne 23-11 over the first ten minutes of the second half, taking a 49-37 lead on a
Dee Dee Sliter jumper.
The Golden Eagles led by 63-51 with 3:10 to play, but Fontbonne scored eight unanswered points to cut SU's lead to four with 1:22 left to play.
Senior
Kerstin Hayes knocked down a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left to seal the 65-61 win for Spaldign.
SU's
Jessica Guy scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season.
Nicole Joerger led the Griffins with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Monday when they play at Westminster College. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m., ET.
