Jessica Guy recorded her fifth double-double of the season to lead the Spalding University women's basketball team to a 60-52 win over Greenville College Tuesday night.
It was a tight game throughout the first half with twelve lead changes and six ties taking place. A three-point basket by
Kayla Riggs with 1:23 left in the first half gave the Lady Eagles a 28-25 lead.
SU never faltered after that keeping the lead for the rest of the game. They started the second half strong going on a 12-2 run extending the lead to 42-29 with 13:33 left in the game. Two free-throws by
Hannah Washle at the 9:17 mark gave the Lady Eagles a 15-point lead, their largest lead of the game.
Greenville College would come back to cut the deficit to five (57-52) with just 47 seconds left in the game, but strong defense and free-throws down the wire kept Spalding the lead securing them the win by the final score of 60-52.
Spalding's bench came up big in the game scoring 21 points filling the void of playing without leading scorer
Kerstin Hayes.
Guy scored a game-high 20 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Emily Gundy paced Greenville with 13 points.
The Lady Eagles will be playing again Saturday, January 18 at Fontbonne University. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m. ET.
