Box Score Jessica Guy scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, recording her second straight double-double to lead the Spalding University women's basketball team past Principia College 83-39 Thursday evening. With the win SU improves to 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in the SLIAC.
After a scoreless first two minutes,
Kerstin Hayes knocked down a jumper to ignite a 10-0 Spalding run. Over the next five minutes SU outscored Principia 17-5 to open up a 27-7 lead and went into the locker room at halftime leading 45-24.
SU started the second half on a 12-3 run capped off by
Caitlin Montgomery jumper to give SU a 57-27 lead with 14:30 to play. The Spalding defense held Principia to 12 points over the remainder of the game as they breezed to an 83-39 win.
The Lady Eagles had an impressive night on the defensive end, holding Principia to a 26.1% field goal percentage, while forcing 29 Panther turnovers and tallying 12 steals.
Freshman Forward
Caitlin Montgomery had a solid game for SU, scoring 13 points, while connecting on 6-8 (75%) of her field goal attempts.
Kerstin Hayes also scored in double figures, scoring 11 points on the night.
Rachel Perea led the Panthers with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
