Guy Drops 18 Points, But Loses To Carroll, 70-58

Jessica Guy scored 18 points, but the Golden Eagles lost to Carroll University 70-58 Monday in their final game at the D3hoops.com Classic.

After a back and forth first four minutes, Kallie Ash connected on a three-pointer from the corner sparking a 5-0 SU run, to give Spalding a 14-11 lead.

Carroll responded with a 15-0 run over the next nine and a half minutes, taking a 26-14 lead with 6:31 left in the half.

A Kerstin Hayes layup capped off an 11-4 Spalding run, to make the score 30-25 with 3:57 remaining in the half.

The Pioneers held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the half, sending SU to halftime trailing 38-25.

Spalding opened the second half on a 10-5 run, cutting the Pioneer lead to eight, but Breann Maryanski hit a three-pointer from the wing to push the Carroll lead back to double-digits at 46-35.

A pair of Maya Harding free throws and a Jessica Guy layup cut Carroll's lead to seven, but the Pioneers ran off six straight points, to make the score 54-41.

Guy scored in the lane to capping a 6-0 Golden Eagle run to get Spalding within seven, but Carroll scored five straight points, pushing their lead back to 12 at 59-47.

Spalding would cut the Pioneer lead to ten several times over the last five minutes, but couldn't get any closer as Carroll won 70-58.

SU outshot Carroll, connecting on 44.4% of their field goal attempts, while holding the Pioneers to 41.7%.

Turnovers and fouls hurt the Golden Eagles. SU turned the ball over 21 times, while only forcing 11. Spalding also committed 24 personal fouls, sending Carroll to the line where they went 16-22.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday, January 4 when they face Fontbonne University. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m., ET at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
