Box Score The Spalding University women's basketball team fell to No. 1 ranked DePauw University 79-53 Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles led the Tigers 13-11 when
Kerstin Hayes knocked down a three-pointer at the 14:43 mark in the first. DePauw outscored SU 11-6 over the next six minutes, taking a 22-19 lead.
Katrina Kuban brought SU within one point when she hit a jumper out of a Spalding timeout to make the score 22-21, but DePauw closed the half on a 20-6 run, sending SU to the half trailing 42-27.
Alison Stephens knocked down a pair of free throws to open the second half, followed by an Ali Ross three-pointer pushing the Tiger lead to 49-29.
Jessica Guy scored on Spalding's next possession, but the Golden Eagles could not close the gap as they went on to lose 79-53.
The Lady Eagles were held to 44.2% shooting from the floor, connecting on 19-43 attempts, while allowing the Tigers to shoot 50.8% for the night.
Hayes led all SU scorers with 10 points.
Jessica Guy had the best overall performance, scoring eight points on 4-7 shooting, while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Up next, SU will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to play a pair of games at the D3hoops.com Classic. The Golden Eagles will take on Occidental College Saturday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m., ET. After a day off, SU will resume play, facing Carroll University Monday, December 30 at 7:00 p.m., ET.
