Gunner Mahoney serves as the Director of Athletics Communication at Spalding University, a role he assumed in November 2023. In this position, Gunner oversees media relations, digital content strategy, and event administration for the Golden Eagles' athletic programs. His day-to-day operations focus on elevating the student-athlete experience, managing facility readiness, upgrading social media outreach, and building strong community partnerships.

Gunner is a familiar face within the Spalding community, having previously served the athletic department as both a Graduate Assistant and a Sports Administration Intern. Through these roles, he developed a comprehensive understanding of NCAA-sponsored sports, mastering game-day logistics, live broadcast setups, and sports journalism.

An expert statistician, Gunner has extensive experience managing live game data using industry-standard platforms like Genius Sports and Sidearm Sports. His reputation for precision from the scorer's table has also made him a sought-after independent contractor, calling live stats for various collegiate and minor professional institutions, including Bellarmine University, Berea College, and the Derby City Distillers of The Basketball League (TBL).

Education and Personal Background
A native of Mount Washington, Kentucky, Gunner comes from a family of educators, which deeply influences his commitment to public service, teamwork, and ethical leadership in collegiate athletics.

Gunner holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Development with a focus on Sports Administration from the University of Louisville. Continuing his academic journey at Spalding, he went on to earn his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in May 2026. Outside of athletic communications, Gunner brings a lifelong passion for the pitch, having spent years as a competitive soccer goalkeeper and a certified youth and high school referee.
