Assistant Coach Kyle Jenkins helped guide the SU throwers to great results his first year as an assistant coach. Under Coach Jenkins guidance the throws group produced new personal records week in and week out, highlighted by Katie Suiters throwing the winning the shot put and discus at the SLIAC Conference Meet, as well as holding the 77th ranked discus throw in NCAA Division III earning a spot in the Great Lakes Regional Elite Meet.
“Coach Jenkins did a tremendous job developing and monitoring the skills of our very young throwing department. He was patient and concrete on ensuring proper skills developing throughout the season. This will be great group to watch moving forward under Kyle’s leadership,” stated Coach Sowder.
Before becoming assistant coach, Kyle was a member of the men’s program at Spalding. While at Spalding, Jenkins helped take the program to new heights as a three-time NCAA Nationals qualifier earing All-American honors in the discus in 2015. In addition, Jenkins holds the school record for the shot put, discus, weight, javelin, and hammer throws. Prior to joining Spalding, Jenkins was a dual-sport athlete at Louisville Male High School, where he set the Kentucky AAA High School state record in discus with a throw of 193 feet and 1 inch. Jenkins was also a member of the football team.
