Kurt Ohlen

Coach Kurt Ohlen enters his fifth year as head coach of the Golden Eagles Men's Lacrosse program in 2026/27.

The 2026 season saw the Golden Eagles earn a 3-12 record which not only encompassed the most wins in the history of the program, but also led to the first-ever berth in the HCLC Men’s Lacrosse Post-Season tournament. A Nick Guzman, FO Eli Teater and M Xzayvyon Isom earned All-HCLC Second-Team recognition while Teater and M Cooper Robinson were named to the HCLC All-Academic Team. MOST importantly, May 9, 2026 saw the graduation of the first group of seniors in the history of the program with six student-athletes earning Bachelor’s degrees and one earning a Master’s degree.

2025 saw the Golden Eagles take a step back in terms of wins and losses with a 1-13 record, but several steps forward in terms of statistical results leading to FO Eli Teater and D Hank Ohlen being named All-HCLC Second-Team.

In the 2024 season, Ohlen guided the Golden Eagles to a 2-12 record that included both the first win and the first conference win in program history. Over the course of the 2024 campaign, Ohlen coached A Nick Guzman and M Xzayvyon Isom to All-HCLC Second-Team honors.

In 2023, Ohlen led a Golden Eagles squad composed almost entirely of Freshmen to an 0-14 record that unfortunately does not reflect the fight and effort of the young team. This season included the first goal scored in program history (2/17 vs Piedmont College) and G John Kelly the first Spalding men’s Lacrosse athlete to receive All-HCLC honors.

Ohlen took the helm of the Spalding program after previously starting the Men's Lacrosse program at Johnson & Wales University (NCAA D3) in Denver, Colorado. He also spent time as a coach in the high school ranks, guiding several players to all-state honors, in addition to one being named an Academic All-American. Ohlen also serves as the head coach for the German Men’s National team, as a guest coach at the United States Naval Academy lacrosse camps, and has extensive experience at the club level, notably as the director of Fellowship Lacrosse and most recently coaching with Team 91 Colorado in Denver.

Ohlen and his wife Karen have a home in the Schnitzelburg neighborhood of Louisville and are parents to Mercedes and Hank (’26).
