Associate Head Coach Zach Huttie is in his second season with the Golden Eagle Nine.
Prior to joining the staff at SU, Huttie served as the Head JV/Assistant Varsity Coach at Union College. He was in charge of all aspects of running the JV program while assisted with the team defense with the varsity team.
Prior to joining the staff at Union, Zach spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana Tech, and in the summer of 2017 he was named the Tournament Director at the World Baseball Academy in Fort Wayne.
One of his primary responsibilities with the Warriors is defense, and since his first season in 2014 the Warriors fielding percentage has improved every year, and 25 points in all, with the 2017 Tech team sporting a .966 fielding percentage, the 15th-best mark in the nation and second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. He has worked with two NAIA National Gold Glove winners in 2017 recipients Dante Biagini and Glen McClain.
Before coming to Indiana Tech in 2014, Huttie spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Ohio University. He assisted in all aspects of the day-to-day operations for the Bobcats. Huttie was an essential piece of before, during and after practice tear down. In addition, he was utilized by the coaching staff primarily as an additional infield instructor, but also worked with outfielders and catchers. Huttie was used extensively to throw daily batting practice and work with hitters.
Prior to his time at Ohio, Huttie was a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater Denison University. While at Denison he served as the infield instructor and recruiting coordinator.
As a player, Huttie was a four-year letter-winner for the Big Red. He enjoyed a strong senior season at Denison as he helped his squad to an NCAC West Division Championship and a runner-up finish at the NCAC tournament. He hit .298 that season with 21 RBI's and eight doubles while leading all shortstops in the conference with a .961 fielding percentage, committing just six errors in 147 chances.
Huttie has also worked as a director and instructor at a wide variety of camps serving as the Director of the Air Force Academy baseball camps the past two summers. He has served as an instructor with the College Coaches Skills Camp in more than a dozen states and has been an instructor at a variety of university camps including Duke, Harvard and Notre Dame. He has also worked as an instructor at The Headfirst Honor Roll Camps.
Huttie received his Master’s in Sports and Recreation Sciences with a focus in Coaching Education from Ohio University in 2014 after graduating from Denison in 2010 with a double major, Bachelors of Arts in Communication and Environmental Studies. He currently resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
