HANOVER, Ind. - Displaying remarkable poise in crunch-time scenarios and dominant net defense, the Spalding University Golden Eagles women's volleyball team secured a hard-fought 3–1 (26–24, 27–25, 13–25, 25–22) victory over Hanover College at Collier Arena on Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles set the tone early by stealing two nail-biting, extra-point frames, holding off late Panther pressure to claim a 26–24 opening set before battling through a tense 27–25 finish in the second. After Hanover surged back to claim the third set 25–13, Spalding quickly regrouped and delivered its most efficient offensive performance in the final frame, hitting .212 with 15 kills to close out the match 25–22. With the non-conference road victory, Spalding improves to 3–3 on the season while handing Hanover (3–2) its second loss of the campaign.
Spalding relied on a balanced attack and front-row net protection to pull away, out-blocking Hanover 15.0 to 9.0 overall. Jobi Smith led the attack with a game-high 15 kills while posting a blistering .375 hitting percentage, adding 15 digs for a standout double-double performance. Paloma Martinez controlled the net with a match-leading 6 total blocks (3 solo, 3 assists), while Kylie Minnis chipped in 10 kills and 4 blocks. Setters Sophi Reynolds (16 assists, 14 digs, 6 kills, 4 blocks) and Taimane Alo (15 assists, 10 digs) operated the offense efficiently, while libero Jaylen Wheatley anchored the back row with a team-high 17 digs. Spalding finished the match with 44 kills, 37 assists, and 76 digs, proving that their defense could hold the line when it mattered most.
The Golden Eagles now return home to prepare for a week-long break before opening a multi-match homestand. Spalding will host Franklin College on Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 PM ET at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
