Baseball Grabs Fifth Consecutive Win Against Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The Spalding University baseball team delivered a commanding performance this past Tuesday, April 21, 2026, cruising to a 17–6 victory over Principia College in Elsah, Illinois.

GAME RECAP
The Golden Eagles' offense was relentless from the start, tallying 18 hits and taking full advantage of defensive miscues to extend their current winning streak. Jimmy Caldwell ignited the scoring early with a solo home run in the second inning, but the game was effectively decided in a massive nine-run third inning where Spalding sent 14 batters to the plate. This offensive explosion was highlighted by a bases-clearing three-RBI double from Joshua Wilmot, a two-run single by AJ Lopez, and additional RBI contributions from Brayden Caldemeyer and Logan Strong.

Spalding continued to pad their lead with three runs in the fourth inning—aided by another Wilmot RBI single and a run-scoring balk—before adding two-run frames in both the sixth and seventh innings to put the game completely out of reach. On the mound, Jordan Howard earned his third win of the season, providing a solid start that allowed the Golden Eagle bats to dictate the tempo of the game. Standout individual performances were plentiful: AJ Lopez finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Joshua Wilmot anchored the middle of the order with four total runs batted in.

With the win, Spalding improves to 23–10 overall and 15–3 in SLIAC play, solidifying their position at the top of the conference standings heading into a high-stakes weekend series.
