LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University softball team enjoyed a successful weekend at home, securing a dominant sweep over Lyon College on Sunday, April 19. The Golden Eagles showcased both their offensive firepower in a blowout win and their late-game resilience in a thrilling walk-off victory.
Game 1: Spalding 11, Lyon 2 (5 Innings)
The Golden Eagles set the tone early in the series opener, overcoming an early 1-0 deficit with a massive five-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning.
Emma Eaton provided the biggest highlight of the frame, delivering a two-run triple and later pulling off a daring straight steal of home.
Spalding's offense didn't let up, adding two runs in the second behind a
Morgan Gambrell single and three more in the third.
Riley Wilkins was effective in the circle, tossing a complete five-inning game to earn her seventh win of the season.

Game 2: Spalding 5, Lyon 4
The nightcap was a much tighter affair, requiring a seventh-inning comeback to complete the sweep. Lyon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and held the advantage for much of the game. Spalding chipped away, tying the game at 2-2 in the third, but the Scots reclaimed a 4-2 lead heading into the final stages.
After an unearned run in the sixth pulled Spalding within one, the Golden Eagles' heart of the order stepped up in the bottom of the seventh.
Braeanna Billups ignited the rally with a leadoff double, followed by a clutch RBI triple from
Kaleigh Franklin-Brooks to tie the game at 4-4. With the winning run just 60 feet away,
Morgan Gambrell delivered her fourth RBI of the day—a walk-off sacrifice fly to center field that sealed the 5-4 victory.
Kaylee Fitzner earned the win with a gritty complete-game performance, holding the Scots scoreless over the final two innings to allow the comeback.
