CINCINNATI, OH. – Spalding men's soccer competed against Mount St. Joseph over the weekend. The Golden Eagles secured the win 4-2 in the matchup Saturday evening.
SU moved to 2-2-2 on the season, while the Lions fell to 0-5-1.
TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagles set the tone early as
Oliver Frankenfeld broke through in the 23rd minute to put Spalding ahead. Just before halftime,
Ali Alkhabi doubled the lead off a setup from
Eddie Mendez-Perez, giving Spalding momentum heading into the break despite Mount St. Joseph cut the margin to 2–1.
Spalding came out strong in the second half, continuing to create chances and control possession. Mendez-Perez added a goal of his own in the 68th minute to restore a two-goal cushion, and in the closing minutes,
Carter Payne, assisted by
Hussein Abdella, put the game out of reach with Spalding's fourth goal. The Golden Eagles dominated the attacking numbers with 26 shots, including 8 on target, while also earning 12 corner kicks to keep constant pressure on the Lions' back line. The win showcased Spalding's offensive depth, with multiple players contributing in the attack, and highlighted their ability to finish strong and control the pace late in the match.
