Baseball advances to SLIAC Semifinal with Dominate win over the Red Devils, 15-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding baseball hosted St. Louis Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Eureka on Tuesday in the SLIAC Quarterfinal. SU earned the win, 15-1.

The Golden Eagles advance to the SLIAC Semifinals on Thursday.

SLIAC QUARTERFINAL - SPALDING 15, EUREKA 1
Spalding wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to establish early momentum. Their offense continued to pile on throughout the game, recording runs nearly every inning. In total, the Golden Eagles put up 17 hits and scored in seven of the eight innings they batted, including three-run efforts in both the third and sixth innings and a two-run burst in the eighth to cap off the rout.

Spalding's offense featured contributions from up and down the lineup. Multiple players registered multi-hit games, combined for eight extra-base hits. The offensive surge was enough support for starting pitcher Cameron Rayborn, who performed excellently on the mound.

Eureka's lone highlight came in the sixth inning, when they managed to scratch across their only run of the game. Despite collecting six hits, they struggled to string anything together against Rayborn's steady command and Spalding's sound defense. The Red Devils could not capitalize on limited opportunities and were ultimately overpowered by a more disciplined and aggressive Golden Eagles team.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
  • Cameron Rayborn pitched five innings, gave up zero runs, and only allowed three hits.
  • Evan Fisher went 3-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
  • Matthew McDowell went 4-5 with a solo home run and four RBIs.
  • Ethan Tuttle tallied three hits, making it his 30th straight game with a hit.
