Softball extends Win-Streak to Five; 2025 SLIAC Co-Regular Season Champions

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding softball ended its regular season in Arkansas on Saturday. SU grabbed a sweep and are SLIAC Co-Regular Season Champions!

SU finished the regular season with a 20-16 record, with a 16-2 record in SLIAC play.

GAME ONE - SPALDING 12, PRINCIPIA 0
From the outset, Spalding established control, plating three runs in the first inning. R. Wilkins led off with a single, stole second, and scored on Morgan Gambrell's RBI double. Madison Loechle and Emma Eaton followed with back-to-back doubles, giving the Golden Eagles an early cushion.

In the second inning, Spalding continued to apply pressure. Makenna Roush reached base and came around to score on another RBI single by Riley Wilkins, extending the lead to 4–0. The offensive explosion came in the third, when Spalding erupted for seven runs. Capitalizing on a combination of defensive miscues by Principia and timely hits, the Golden Eagles blew the game open. Eaton drove in a run with a single, and Carsyn Sidebottom added an RBI double to push the score to 11–0.

The final run came in the fourth inning, when Allison Nell drove in a run with a single to cap the scoring at 12–0. Sydney Schott (8–9) threw a complete-game shutout on the mound. She scattered three hits across five innings, issued no walks, and kept the Panthers off balance throughout the game. Spalding's defense backed her with a clean game, committing no errors, while Principia struggled defensively with three.

GAME TWO - SPALDING 18, PRINCIPIA 2
After shutting out the Panthers earlier in the day, Spalding carried their momentum into game two with a relentless offensive performance and solid pitching from Kennadi Schleicher-Drasler. The Golden Eagles wasted no time, putting up two runs in the top of the first inning to establish an early lead. They followed that with a five-run outburst in the second, capitalizing on a mix of sharp hitting and defensive miscues by Principia.

Spalding's offense continued to roll as they tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning and exploded for eight in the fifth to put the game entirely out of reach. The lineup produced 17 hits, with nearly every player contributing either a hit or a run scored. The Golden Eagles were aggressive on the base paths and took advantage of three errors by Principia's defense, turning routine plays into scoring opportunities.

On the mound, Kennadi Schleicher-Drasler improved her record to 8–3, throwing five strong innings. She allowed two runs on four hits, keeping Principia's offense quiet while her teammates piled on the run support. The defense behind her was flawless, committing no errors and turning in clean plays to back up the effort.

GAME THREE - SPALDING 6, LYON 4
The Golden Eagles' offense ignited in the second inning, scoring four runs to overturn an early 2–0 deficit. Key contributions included a three-RBI double by Grayce Marcum and an RBI single from Gambrell. Spalding added two more runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Lyon's defensive errors. Dawn Wilson scored on a misplay, and Marcum crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Gambrell.

Pitcher Sydney Schott delivered a complete-game performance, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. Despite a two-run triple by Lyon in the fourth inning, Schott maintained composure, shutting down the Scots' offense in the final three innings to preserve the win.

GAME FOUR - SPALDING 6, LYON 4
Lyon took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the second to go up 3–0. Spalding responded in the second inning when Riley Beckmann's RBI single brought home Loechle, who had reached base earlier. In the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles tied the game at 3–3, capitalizing on Lyon's defensive errors.

The fifth inning proved pivotal for Spalding. With two outs, the Golden Eagles loaded the bases and scored two runs, taking a 5–3 lead. Lyon narrowed the gap with a run in the seventh inning, but Spalding added an insurance run in the top half to secure the 6–4 victory.

Kennadi Schleicher-Drasler earned the win for Spalding, pitching a complete game. She allowed four runs on seven hits, striking out multiple batters and keeping Lyon's offense in check during the crucial middle innings.
