LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding baseball hosted Transylvania University on Wednesday. Spalding won, 12-7.
SU moved to 24-12 on the season.
TURNING POINT
Spalding came out aggressive at the plate, pushing across runs early to take control of the game. They broke open a tight contest in the middle innings, stringing together hits and capitalizing on several defensive lapses by the Pioneers. The Golden Eagles tallied 12 runs on a balanced attack, with contributions coming up and down the lineup.
Standout performances included multi-hit games from the top of the order, including a three-RBI day from junior outfielder
Whitt Callahan, who also added a double. Senior infielder
Ethan Tuttle was a spark plug on the base, swiping two bags and scoring three times. Spalding also benefited from a pair of clutch two-out hits that extended key innings.
On the mound, Spalding's starter went five solid innings, giving up only two earned runs before handing things off to the bullpen. Transylvania tried to mount a late comeback in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to close the gap to 10–7. But Spalding responded immediately in the bottom half, plating two more insurance runs to put the game out of reach.
