ST. LOUIS, Mo. – On Wednesday, Spalding baseball traveled to Fontbonne University on Friday. Spalding won both games by massive margins.
Spalding improved to 22-10 (11-3 SLIAC) on the season, while the Griffins fell to 6-19 (5-9 SLIAC).
GAME ONE - SPALDING 17, GRIFFINS 5
From the first inning, the Golden Eagles set the tone offensively, tallying 22 hits and scoring in six of the nine innings. After jumping ahead with a run in the first and two more in the second, Spalding broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning and continued piling on with three runs in the sixth, two in the eighth, and a decisive five-run outburst in the ninth. The offense was evenly distributed throughout the lineup, with numerous players contributing multi-hit games and timely RBIs. On the mound, starting pitcher
Caden Krystofiak turned in a solid outing to earn the win and improve his record to 5–3. While Fontbonne managed to put up three runs in the fourth and added single runs in the sixth and eighth, Spalding's pitching staff maintained steady control throughout the game. Disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning complemented the Golden Eagles' 17-run explosion.
GAME TWO - SPALDING 11, FONTBONNE 0
The Golden Eagles wasted no time establishing control, scoring in each of the first five innings.
Hunter Strong sparked the offense with a solo home run in the first, and
Ethan Tuttle added a two-RBI triple in the second to extend the lead. Spalding's pitching, by
Jake Mueller, was equally impressive, shutting out the Griffins while allowing just five hits.
