LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding women's lacrosse hosted HCLC opponent Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday. SU grabbed their third conference win in a row, 15-9.
SU moved to 4-9 (3-0 HCLC) on the season, while the Lions fell to 2-9 (0-3 HCLC).
TURNING POINT
From the opening draw, Spalding came out with high energy and quickly took control of the game. Their offense wasted no time setting the tone, moving the ball effectively in transition and capitalizing on early scoring opportunities. By the end of the first quarter, they had already established a multi-goal lead, giving them momentum that would carry through the rest of the contest.
Throughout the game, Spalding's attack displayed outstanding balance, with multiple players contributing to the scoring effort rather than relying on just one or two standout performers. The team's offensive unit executed crisp passes and maintained excellent field spacing, allowing them to break down Mount St. Joseph's defensive structure and find quality scoring opportunities. The midfielders played a crucial role on both ends of the field, pushing the tempo in transition while also dropping back to support the defense. Their hustle on ground balls and their ability to ride pressure after turnovers kept the visitors from settling into any sort of rhythm.
Defensively, Spalding showed resilience and awareness, frequently disrupting Mount St. Joseph's offensive sets. Timely stick checks and strong one-on-one coverage helped generate turnovers that were quickly converted into fast-break opportunities. The goalie made several clutch saves, particularly during a stretch in the third quarter when Mount St. Joseph threatened to close the gap. Instead, Spalding held firm, responding with a string of goals that put the game out of reach and reasserted their dominance.
Mount St. Joseph showed flashes of solid play and fought hard to stay in contention, narrowing the deficit at times with quick goals and sharp ball movement. However, they were ultimately unable to match Spalding's consistency and execution over four quarters. Spalding's ability to respond under pressure, make in-game adjustments, and play with a high level of intensity from start to finish proved to be the difference-maker.
