LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, the Spalding women's basketball team played SLIAC opponent Blackburn. SU won 76-51.
The Golden Eagles moved to 8-13 (7-7 SLIAC), while the Beavers fell to 1-20 (0-14 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
The game commenced with both teams displaying tenacity. Spalding's defense set the tone early, limiting Blackburn to 12 points in the first quarter. Offensively, the Golden Eagles distributed the ball effectively, with multiple players contributing to a 14-point quarter.
Spalding intensified their defensive efforts in the second quarter, holding the Beavers to just 8 points. The Golden Eagles capitalized on Blackburn's turnovers, converting them into fast-break opportunities. By halftime, Spalding had a 27-20 lead, reflecting their defensive dominance and balanced scoring.
The third quarter showcased Spalding's offensive capabilities. The team erupted for 25 points, with senior guard
Sydney Raque leading the charge. Her precision from beyond the arc and ability to penetrate the defense created significant challenges for Blackburn. Defensively, the Golden Eagles continued their suffocating play, limiting the Beavers to 9 points in the quarter.
