LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's basketball team played SLIAC opponent Westminster on Saturday. SU won 83-53.
The Golden Eagles moved to 17-6 (15-1 SLIAC), while the Blue Jays fell to 4-19 (3-13 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding started strong, setting the pace early with efficient offense and aggressive defense. The Golden Eagles knocked down key shots, including back-to-back threes, to build an early lead. Midway through the half, a dominant 12-2 run extended their advantage as their defense tightened, forcing multiple Westminster turnovers. A highlight dunk and a late surge pushed Spalding's lead to 43-27 at halftime. Their defense held Westminster to 37% shooting, while their fast-break play created easy scoring opportunities.
Spalding carried its momentum into the second half, quickly extending the lead with strong shooting and defensive pressure. The Golden Eagles maintained control, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities. Westminster struggled to find an offensive rhythm as Spalding's defense remained relentless. A late scoring surge, including key three-pointers and inside finishes, put the game out of reach. The Golden Eagles cruised to a dominant 83-53 victory, securing another crucial conference win.
