LAKE FOREST, Ill. - In the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Spalding University Women's Soccer squad fell to Lake Forest College Women's Soccer 4-0. Spalding entered the match with a 14-5-2 record (7-1 in conference) while Lake Forest came in perfect at 21-0-0 (8-0).
TURNING POINT
Spalding managed just seven total shots, five of them on goal, compared to Lake Forest's 21 total with six on target. Goalie
Sophie Young-Neawedde tallied two saves over the full 90 minutes but was unable to stem the tide as Lake Forest struck early and often.
Junior
Karolyn Lighthall logged four shots and three on goal across 74 minutes, while senior forward
Emma Livingston and freshman
Maddie Campbell each took one shot (Livingston's found the target) in roughly 83 minutes of play.
Madison Dziedzic added one shot and one on goal in 52 minutes.
The scoring unfolded as follows: Lake Forest's Maddie Vasquez opened the scoring at 6:40 of the first half, followed by Theresa Presberg at 16:53. The third goal arrived just before halftime, by Anna Gracia at 44:51 (assisted by Anna Hoffman). Early in the second half, at 60:43, Hoffman added the fourth goal (assist from Presberg).
SU ended their historical season with a 14-5-2 record, making their second NCAA Tournament in Program History.
