LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding women's soccer team delivered another dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Principia 5-0 at Legacy Fields.
SU moved to (11-3-1, 5-0-0 SLIAC), while the Panthers fell to (4-5-0, 2-2-0 SLIAC)
TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagles came out firing from the opening whistle and never looked back, setting the tone with an early goal less than two minutes into the match.
Maddie Campbell got things started, finishing a pass from
Emma Livingston to put Spalding ahead 1-0.
Madison Dziedzic doubled the lead midway through the first half with an unassisted strike, and just a few minutes later,
Karolyn Lighthall found the back of the net to make it 3-0 before halftime.
Lighthall continued her stellar play in the second half, scoring her second goal of the game off an assist from
Elle Trentman to extend Spalding's lead to 4-0. The Golden Eagles capped off the dominant outing in the 75th minute when
Lejla Salihovic, assisted by
Emma Scheumann and Emme Kirn, slotted home the fifth and final goal. Defensively, Spalding was impenetrable—holding Principia to zero shots and zero corner kicks throughout the match. Goalkeeper
Sophie Young-Neawedde earned the shutout without needing to record a save, thanks to a flawless defensive effort in front of her.
Statistically, Spalding overwhelmed Principia across the board, outshooting them 37-0 and earning 13 corner kicks to Principia's none. The team's relentless offensive pressure and disciplined defense kept the visitors on their heels from start to finish.Â
