LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding women's basketball team beat SLIAC opponent Eureka Red Devils with a final score of 57-56 on Saturday.
This victory improved the Golden Eagles' season record to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), while the Red Devils fell to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
TURNING POINT
The game began with Eureka taking an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 15-6. However, Spalding responded vigorously in the second quarter, outscoring Eureka 19-10 to narrow the halftime deficit to 25-26.
The Golden Eagles maintained their momentum in the third quarter, adding another 19 points compared to Eureka's 13, entering the final period with a 44-39 advantage. Despite a strong push from the Red Devils in the fourth quarter, where they outscored Spalding 18-13, the Golden Eagles held on to secure the one-point victory.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- Sydney Raque tallied 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. The senior hit the game-winner with 11 seconds left to put the Golden Eagles over the top.
- Isis Rodgers filled the box score with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. Rodgers shot 4-8 (50%) from the field.
- Zaneiya Batiste owned the rebound game, as she recorded 18 boards. The junior also tallied four steals.
- Gabby Douglass scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds for SU off the bench.
- Spalding earned their third SLIAC win of the season, their second straight.
