LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding women's volleyball host SLIAC opponent MUW on Saturday. SU beat the Owls 3-1.
The Golden Eagles moved to 5-7 (2-1 SLIAC) on the season, while MUW fell to 2-6 (0-3 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
A kill by
Abigail Ratts got the momentum straight on the Golden Eagles' side to begin this one. This spiked an immediate 10-1 run for SU. The set continued, and MUW found some rhythm after a timeout, finding a 5-0 run. This made it 19-7 in favor of Spalding.
Ella Clark joined the fun for SU, getting back-to-back kills. A powerful kill by Branch followed this to end the set, SU winning 25-10.
Jobi Smith started the second set with a kill of her own, keeping the momentum on the Golden Eagles' side. Branch fueled herself with the momentum from her team. She tallied three straight kills to put SU ahead 6-2. MUW responded reasonably well as they cut the lead to two, 10-8. It went back and forth until it reached 16-13 in favor of Spalding. Branch once again stepped up big for the Golden Eagles. The graduate student tallied the next four out of six points for SU. This boosted the lead for Spalding, 21-13.
Presley Hagan ended the set for SU with a kill. Spalding took the set, 25-16.
Once again, the Golden Eagles got off to a quick start to begin the set. A couple of errors by the Owls put Spalding up 7-3 early. You could feel the victory nearing as the score reached 17-12 in favor of MUW. A great timeout by the Owls coach gave them a huge run and momentum boost. MUW utilized this and took the set, 27-25.
SU came out seeking revenge in the fourth set. Branch and Clark led the way for SU at the beginning, giving them a 7-3 early lead. The Owls fought back into the set and tied it up at 12. The match was a close affair as it reached 16 all. A couple of errors by MUW and kills by
Jobi Smith, Ratts, Clark, and Branch won the game for SU. The Golden Eagles take the set 25-21.

Spalding will return to action on Saturday, October 5th, in Greenville, Illinois. SU will take on a SLIAC doubleheader against Greenville and Blackburn.
