Golden Eagles Win Fourth in a Row

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to five games as they defeated Anderson University, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Spalding moved to 5-1-1 overall on the season, while Anderson fell to 3-2-2.

TURNING POINT
Coming into this matchup, it was clear that this would be a battle from start to finish. Possession shifted back and forth, but remained in the middle third for the majority of the opening 15 minutes. The lone notable action occurred when Spalding won a corner kick in the 12th minute. Alyssa Ochsner had a decent look at the Raven goal, but ultimately the ball found its way out of bounds for a goal kick. Finally, SU was able to break open the game with an incisive pass from Jaelyn Dodson. Dodson's pass found Emma Livingston who delicately placed the ball just over the keeper's outstretched hands to score the opener in the 23rd minute. This opened the metaphorical floodgates for the Golden Eagles who earned a pair of corners and took four more shots over the next seven minutes of action. After the game settled back into the midfield battle it was before, SU won a throw-in in a dangerous area. Macey Sawyer threw the ball right to the feet of Taylor Zebarth who quickly booted it towards Faith Rutherford at the top of the box. Rutherford made a swift move before knocking the ball into the back of the net off of the keeper's gloves. Spalding carried the 2-0 lead into the half.

The second half started out similar to the first, with possession changing hands throughout the period. Spalding added five more shots to their total of 13 for the game while limiting Anderson to just three attempts on net. Defenders Macie Rawlins and Claira Andrews held down the back line for the full 90 minutes, allowing just one Raven shot to be on target. The Golden Eagles maintained the majority of the second half possession, and comfortably saw the game out. SU walked off the field victorious for the fifth time this season, winning 2-0.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES

  • Olivia Bosch earned her fifth clean sheet of the season, leading the conference.
