Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Gunner Mahoney, Director of Athletics Communication

HCLC Semifinal

ANDERSON, Ind. – Spalding women's lacrosse traveled to Anderson University to compete in the HCLC Semifinals. The Golden Eagles fought hard, but the Ravens took the win, 15-12.

Spalding ended the season with a 5-10 overall record and 3-2 in HCLC play.

TURNING POINT
It was a quick start for SU, as Mahalia Dominguez scored 35 seconds into the game. The Ravens struck back with two goals in the next two minutes, taking the lead 2-1. At the 12-minute mark, Dominguez tallied her second goal of the game. This boosted some momentum for SU, and Emma Beach netted one just a minute later. It was a back-and-forth battle as Anderson grabbed a goal of their own to tie it 3-3. Taylor Young got in the scoring column with eight minutes remaining. It seemed like a ping-pong game as the Ravens snagged a goal right before the quarter ended. The game was tied 4-4 entering the second quarter. 

Anderson opened the second quarter with two goals. The clock ticked until it hit the five-minute mark. Young finally netted a goal for the Golden Eagles, making it 6-5 in favor of Anderson. The Ravens took control of the game for the remainder of the quarter. They tallied two more goals and took the lead into halftime, 8-5. 

SU came out firing in the second half. Dominguez scored immediately, giving her a hat-trick for the game. Four minutes passed, but the Golden Eagles netted another one. Beach tallied her second goal of the game. Just as SU got back into the game, Anderson struck again. They tallied another goal, making it 9-7 in favor of Anderson. SU did not give up. Beach (giving her a hat-trick) and Kathryn Moore netted two goals to make it a tie-ball game, 9-9. Just 30 seconds passed, and the Ravens took the lead once again. The game continued the same rhythm as Sutton Gettings snagged her first goal. With three minutes remaining in the quarter, the Ravens took the lead again, 11-10. As halftime is about to hit, Moore tied up. At the end of the third, the score was 11-11.

In the fourth quarter, it was all the Ravens. They tallied three straight goals. Beach netted one for SU, but it wasn't enough as Anderson grabbed another one. The Ravens took the win, 15-12.
