LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding baseball hosted Hanover College on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles took the win 6-5.
SU moved to 24-10 overall on the season, while the Panthers fell to 21-10.
GAME RECAP - SPALDING 6, HANOVER 5
It was a great start for the Panthers as they tallied two runs in the top of the first inning. The Golden Eagles responded well as they snagged a run of their own in the bottom of the first.
Jacob Spanyer singled to left field, sending
Matthew McDowell home. This made it 2-1 in favor of Hanover.
The tension in the game was palpable, with both teams locked in a scoreless second inning. It wasn't until the bottom of the third that the Golden Eagles managed to break the deadlock. Strong's RBI single, with Tuttle crossing home plate, brought the score to an even 2-2, setting the stage for a thrilling continuation of the game.
As the game reached the fifth inning, it was a back-and-forth battle. The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the fifth and took the lead, 4-2. In the bottom of the fifth, SU came out with a vengeance. Tuttle tallied the first run of the inning off of a wild pitch by Hanover. Spanyer followed with an RBI of his own to tie the game, 4-4.
Evan Fisher joined the rally with an RBI single. This gave SU the lead at the end of the fifth, 5-4.
In the top of the sixth, the Panthers responded once again. They tallied a run to make it a tie game, 5-5. It wasn't until the bottom of the eighth that someone else scored. McDowell stepped up to the plate as the bases got loaded for SU. He hit a sacrifice fly to give the Golden Eagles the lead, 6-5.
Caden Krystofiak came in to close out the game for SU. He was clutch and struck out two batters. SU hung on to win, 6-5.
