PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Spalding women's lacrosse traveled to La Roche on Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated the Redhawks 11-8.
Spalding moved to 2-4, while La Roche fell to 1-3 on the season.

It was a strong start for the Golden Eagles, as
Mahalia Dominguez scored the game's first goal just a minute into it. The Redhawks responded with two of their own in the next six minutes. Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the quarter, and La Roche took the lead into the second quarter, 2-1.
As the second quarter started, SU again netted an early goal. The third one came 38 seconds into the quarter to tie the game.
Taylor Young scored the goal for the Golden Eagles. Just as soon as SU tied the game, La Roche struck again to give them the lead, 3-2. It was all SU for the next five minutes of play. Spalding grabbed three straight goals.
Emma Beach, Young, and
Hannah Mark scored the three goals for the Golden Eagles. This was Mark's first goal of the season. As SU created some separation before the half, the Redhawks scored another goal, making it 5-4 in favor of SU. With 2 minutes and 33 seconds left in the half, SU finished the half on a strong note. Young netted her third goal to give herself a first-half hat trick. Spalding had some cushion going into the half, 6-4.
The third quarter started with some momentum on the Golden Eagles' side. Beach scored her second goal of the game, giving SU the lead 7-4. Once again, the Redhawks fought right back into it. They scored back-to-back goals to close the gap to within one. Just as La Roche got right back into it, SU dug deep and grabbed three straight goals. Dominguez netted back-to-back goals, giving her a hat trick, as Young grabbed her fourth goal of the game. SU extended the lead to end the third quarter at 10-6.
The Golden Eagles' defense held firm for the next ten minutes, as they did not allow the Redhawks to get any closer. With five minutes remaining, La Roche found the back of the net to make it a three-goal game. A minute later, Beach scored again to give SU the separation they needed. This gave Spalding a four-goal cushion, and Beach grabbed a hat trick. The Redhawks scored again, but it wasn't enough as Spalding held on to win 11-8.
