Golden Eagles soar over Owls

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Spalding men's basketball traveled to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Mississippi University for Women (MUW) on Thursday. The Golden Eagles defeated the Owls, 80-50.

SU moved to 12-9 (11-4 SLIAC), while MUW fell to 7-15 (3-12 SLIAC) on the season.

TURNING POINT
Caden Bradford got the Golden Eagles on the board with a three-pointer. This created early momentum for SU as Jacoby Johnson added a three of his own. Emmanuel Rislin wanted to get his name in the scoring as he hit a layup, giving Spalding the early 8-3 start. The Golden Eagles maintained control for majority of the half. Spalding created some separation before halftime as Kameron Jones and Bradford tallied back-to-back three pointers to spark a 15-0 run for the Golden Eagles. Spalding closed out the half with a huge cushion, 43-20.

The Golden Eagles started the second half just like how they ended the first. Anthony Dillard got SU on the board first in the second half with a strong layup down low. Rislin followed Dillard's points with a great block on the defensive end and a layup on the ensuing fast break. Spalding kept the momentum as it reached six minutes left in the half, SU led 62-36. The Golden Eagles maintained control of the game as they took their fourth consecutive SLIAC win, 80-50.
