Three Double-Doubles push Golden Eagles over Panthers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Tuesday, Spalding men's basketball hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Principia College. The Golden Eagles defeated the Panthers 59-52.

SU moved to 13-10 (12-5 SLIAC), while Principia fell to 6-18 (5-12 SLIAC) on the season.

TURNING POINT
Anthony Dillard got SU on the board first with a layup. This sparked an early 12-2 run for the Golden Eagles. Spalding's defense was on fire as seven minutes passed by, holding the Panthers to only five points. Emmanuel Rislin kept the scoring going for SU as he hit a mid-range jumper to extend the lead, 14-5 in favor of Spalding. Principia tried to fight back into it, but the Golden Eagles defense held strong, only giving up 17 points in the first half. Spalding took the lead into the half, 25-17.

Opening the second half, once again, Dillard got SU on the board first with back-to-back layups. Jacoby Johnson added to the scoring with a mid-range of his own, extending the lead, 31-23. The Panthers fought back into this game and made it a four point ball game, 33-29. SU held strong even though Principia was back in the game. Johnson and Caden Bradford had back-to-back baskets, giving Spalding a bigger cushion. The Panthers kept trying to get back into this game but SU's defense was too much to handle. Rislin put the exclamation on the game with a massive two handed dunk. This pushed the Golden Eagles over the top. SU took this one, 59-52.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
  • Three Golden Eagles had a double-double.
  • Caden Bradford led the way for SU with 19 points.
  • Spalding outrebounded the Panthers, 47-41.
